Surah Yaseen Privacy Policy

Effective date: 4 June, 2026

Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how Yaseen Companion (“the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the App on your device. The App is designed to work primarily offline: Quran text, translations, and audio for Surah Yaseen (Chapter 36) are bundled in the App. We do not operate a user account system and we do not collect personal information on our own servers. On supported Android builds, the App may show ads through Google AdMob as described below.

Summary

  • No sign-in — the App does not require an account.
  • On-device storage only — bookmarks, reading progress, stats, and settings stay on your phone unless you use a system feature that shares data (e.g. Share App).
  • Advertising (Android) — banner and full-screen ads may appear via Google AdMob on Android release/dev builds. Ads are not shown in Expo Go, on iOS, or on web. You can manage ad privacy choices in Settings when available.
  • No separate analytics SDKs — the App does not use Firebase Analytics, Sentry, or similar analytics/crash SDKs in the current build.
  • Optional permissions — microphone (waveform only), notifications, and background audio are used only when you enable related features.

Information the App uses on your device

1) Microphone (optional — Audio screen waveform)

Permission
Microphone / RECORD_AUDIO on Android; microphone usage description on iOS. Also MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS for playback behavior.
Purpose
On the Audio tab, the App may request microphone access only to drive an optional live waveform that visualizes playback audio levels while surah audio is playing. It is not used to record your voice, conversations, or ambient sound for storage.
When used
Only when you use an audio feature that requires microphone access.
Storage
The App does not store microphone audio.
Sharing/Transmission
The App does not send microphone audio off your device unless you explicitly choose an in-app action that shares it.

2) Notifications

Permission used
Notifications permission (including POST_NOTIFICATIONS on Android 13+ when required).
Purpose
To show Daily Ayah reminders.
What we do
The App may schedule notifications on your device (local notifications).
Data used
Your notification preferences (for example, enabled/disabled, time) and scheduled notification identifiers stored locally so the App can manage/cancel/reschedule them.
Sharing/Transmission
Notifications are scheduled and delivered on your device; we do not collect or transmit your notification content to our servers.

3) Background play & media controls (optional)

Setting
“Background Play” in Settings (you turn this on yourself).
Purpose
To continue audio playback when the App is in the background and to show system media controls on the lock screen and in the notification shade (play, pause, skip, and progress) while audio is playing.
Permissions used (Android)
FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK, and WAKE_LOCK (with notifications permission on Android 13+ for the media notification when required).
iOS
Background audio mode is used when Background Play is enabled.
Data shown
Playback title (for example, Surah Yaseen or ayah label) and position/time shown by your device — not sent to our servers.
Sharing/Transmission
Media controls are provided by your device’s operating system; we do not collect or transmit this playback information to our servers.

4) Local app data stored on your device

The App stores some information locally on your device to provide features and remember your settings. This may include:

  • Last read ayah / reading position
  • Bookmarks
  • Theme and display settings (font size, scroll mode)
  • Translation and language preferences
  • Search history (stored locally)
  • Reading statistics (pages read, time spent)
  • Daily notification settings
  • Background audio setting

This data is stored using on-device storage (e.g., local storage/file storage). We do not upload this data to a server.

5) Advertising (Google AdMob — Android builds)

When ads appear
On Android native builds (Play Store / EAS builds), the App may show banner ads on some screens (for example Home, Audio, Saved/Bookmarks, Stats, Search History, and Settings) and full-screen interstitial ads at certain navigation moments (for example when leaving the Quran reader, or when entering/leaving some tabs). Ads are not shown while surah audio or other media is playing, and interstitials are limited by a minimum time interval. Ads are disabled in Expo Go and are not used on iOS or web in the current App version.
Third-party service
Ads are served through Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) via the react-native-google-mobile-ads SDK. Google may process device and ad-related information (such as advertising ID, IP address, app version, and interaction with ads) under Google’s Privacy Policy and AdMob & Ads program policies.
Consent & personalization
Where required, the App uses Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request or update your ad consent choices before or while ads load. Depending on your choices, ads may be requested as personalized or non-personalized. If consent is not granted or cannot be obtained, the App limits ad requests (for example, non-personalized ads only, or no ads until consent allows them).
Your controls
In Settings (Android), you may open Ad privacy choices to review or change consent and personalization options supported by Google. You can also limit ad tracking in your device settings (Android Advertising ID / Google ads settings).
Content rating
The App configures ad requests with a maximum content rating of PG where supported by the SDK.
What we do not do with ads
We do not sell your bookmarks, reading history, or settings to advertisers. Ad requests do not include your Quran bookmarks or reading progress from our servers (we do not host that data).
Sharing/Transmission
Ad impressions and related signals are transmitted between your device and Google/ad partners as part of normal ad delivery — not to servers operated by us for account or reading data.

Network & third parties

The App does not send your bookmarks, reading history, or settings to our servers. Network access may still occur in limited cases:

  • Google AdMob (Android): loads and displays ads and may process device/ad identifiers and consent status as described above.
  • Your choice — Share App: opens the system share sheet with a message and the Play Store listing URL you can send to others.
  • Your choice — Rate us: opens the Google Play Store (Android) or Apple’s in-app review / App Store flow (iOS). Those services are operated by Google or Apple under their own policies.
  • Operating system services: font loading and platform APIs used by the App framework (Expo / React Native) as part of normal app operation.

We do not sell your personal information.

What we do NOT collect

We do not operate servers that collect account profiles from the App. Based on the current app configuration, we do not directly collect:

  • Account information (no sign-in)
  • Precise location
  • Contacts
  • Camera/photos/media library
  • Analytics or crash-reporting data via separate third-party analytics SDKs (e.g., Firebase Analytics / Sentry) in the current build

Note: When ads are enabled on Android, Google AdMob may use advertising identifiers and similar signals on your device for ad delivery and measurement under Google’s policies and your consent choices — see section 5 above.

Sharing

We do not sell your data. We do not share your bookmarks, reading progress, or settings with third parties through our own servers because the App does not transmit that personal app data to us. When you use ads on Android, Google and its ad partners may receive information needed to serve and measure ads as described in section 5 and in Google’s privacy documentation.

Data retention and deletion

  • Your settings and app data remain on your device until you delete them (for example, by clearing app data or uninstalling the App).
  • You can stop notifications anytime by disabling them in the App or in your device settings.
  • You can turn off Background Play in Settings to stop background audio and system media controls when you are not playing audio.
  • You can update ad consent and privacy choices in Settings → Ad privacy choices (Android), or reset/limit advertising IDs in your device settings. Uninstalling the App removes locally stored app data on your device.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect locally stored app data. No method of storage is completely secure.

Children’s privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required by local law). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children on our own servers. Ad content is requested with a PG maximum rating where supported; parents and guardians can use device-level ad and privacy controls.

Changes to this policy

If the App’s data practices change, we will update this Privacy Policy and the effective date.
